The Thompson Technique, developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, has evolved into a system of analysis and means of adjusting the spinal column. This technique makes use of specialized drop-piece mechanisms in the table to assist the adjustment. The chiropractor applies a gentle, specific thrust at the same time the chosen drop-piece section of the table gives way, reducing the pressure needed to move a spinal segment.
Individual cushions or “drop pieces” located along the table support each area of the spine until the thrust is given. The dropping of the table allows for a lighter adjustment without the twisting positions that can accompany other techniques.
This technique is a very gentle, specific technique that uses the Activator tool. It can be used on patients for spinal corrections on patients with a range of challenges from surgical recovery to osteoporotic patients and children.
Your body is a self-healing, self-regulating, homeostasis maintaining, intelligent, vitalistic being. This is the philosophical tenet of chiropractic. With this in mind, a baby in the breech presentation is a perfect adaptation to something occurring in the body.
This is not a pathological condition. It is important to examine WHY a baby is breech. More often than not, the cause is due to a decrease nerve supply and misalignment of the pelvis. This creates tension in the uterus, which prevents the baby from going head down. A baby wants to be, and will always be in the most open and comfortable spot.
Chiropractic is a system of optimizing human performance and potential by restoring or enhancing the body’s function. Chiropractors work with enhancing the body’s innate ability to integrate structural, emotional, and physiological changes so that it can function the way it was designed to. They work with the nervous system, the communication between the brain and the body, primarily focusing on the cranium, spine, and pelvis, because this is where the nervous system is housed.
When there are misalignments (subluxations) of these structures, imbalances, miscommunication, and stress occur in surrounding muscles, ligaments and organs. Due to the rapid change in a woman’s anatomy and physiology while pregnant, chiropractic care is vital to mother and baby’s health, enhancing that ability to adapt and function.
Women who receive chiropractic care during their pregnancy have been shown to have the following potential benefits:
SOT concerns itself primarily with the cranial sacral respiratory mechanism. This is a wavelike oscillation in the covering of the brain and spinal cord. Although quite subtle, this motion is essential for the normal functioning of the brain and spinal cord, and thereby the rest of the nervous system and the rest of the body.
It functions much like breathing air, in that it has a cyclic tightening and loosening phase. Ordinary respiration–breathing air in and out–also affects and can be used to normalize cranial sacral respiratory action. The normal function of the cranial sacral respiratory mechanism is recognized as a primary function of life in the body and must be normal if all functions of the body are to be normal. Like other chiropractic techniques, SOT also corrects abnormal spinal mechanics and any associated nerve problems.
Diversified technique (DT) is the most commonly used adjustment technique by chiropractors. Like many chiropractic techniques, it is characterized by a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust. Diversified is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine and joint dysfunction.
